We invited Mikkel Hansen to come by our showroom, where he so kindly took the time to share his story with us. Known for his remarkable handball career, Mikkel carries the marks of the game – each scar and crooked finger a reminder of the years he’s dedicated to his sport. But beyond the court, there’s another side to him. A natural transition from one form of expression to another.

– Your hand has been an important tool on the court, and I imagine that every line and scar on it carries a story?
"It’s clear that, as a former handball player, there are quite a few crooked and half-damaged fingers from various finger injuries—ones I never really had time to let heal properly, which is why today you can see the less-than-beautiful result. On the other hand, it’s also a kind of lifelong story, as my hands have been my tools of the trade for many years. So there are lots of little stories and anecdotes behind each scar, each injury, and every crooked finger—and I have plenty of them."

– Is there a special occasion or story behind the piece of jewelry you're wearing? What makes it special to you?
"It’s my wedding ring, and that in itself says a lot about how important it is to me. It was important for me to find a design that was a bit different and personal, yet still timeless—something I wouldn’t grow tired of over time. I think we really nailed that. There’s also a beautiful synergy between my ring and my wife’s, as they both have a wave-like design that ties them together nicely."

How do you connect spirituality with your work? Do you feel there's a spiritual dimension to what you do – that it might not just be a job, but a passion?
"For me, elite sports are more than just a job – it’s a life path, a passion, and yes, a kind of spiritual practice. When I step into the game, I feel a deep connection to something greater than myself. There’s a love and a joy in the sport that lifts me up – even during the toughest and most demanding times. It’s as if a space opens up in the game where I can be fully present, and where something deeper gets to lead the way."

"The joy and curiosity I feel make learning easy and playful – and it’s exactly in that state that I feel closest to my inner core. I think that’s why, as a human being, you can push yourself to the limit and still have energy to spare: because you’re being carried by something that feels meaningful."

"I've always made use of art exhibitions, design shows, and so on, to create a kind of distance from my job as a handball player. It became a kind of refuge – a place where I could immerse myself and give in to a completely different world, which actually allows me to be even more present when I'm at work."
